The Band
Lead singer and songwriter, Ms. Alice, blends her early inspiration from Green Day's American Idiot album, pop icons like Sara Bareilles, Regina Spektor & Fiona Apple, and theatrical roots into dancable rock-cabaret tunes about balancing nature and wealth in today's outta-whack world.
Audiences say, "The horn section is unbelievable!! A live horn section with the drums, bass and guitar, melding with the lead's changing instruments creates a different dimension!" Listeners "love that climate and community is an inner throughline to all the music."
Bio: Ms. Alice grew up in the suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland where she learned about the interconnection of ecosystems with the quality of our lives. She studied environmental and energy policy, but fell away from working in the energy sector after her dismay at the rampant fraud and corruption she observed. Now she runs her own private music lesson studio in Washington, DC and writes songs about the structural and societal change she hopes for in our society.
Melting Virgo's original music features the following current bandmates in live shows:

In fall of 2025, Ms. Alice ran a campaign on Seed & Spark where her community raised over $5,400 toward the creation of their debut album, Don't Negotiate. Songs blend a live horn section with singing from members of that same community. So far, the project has recorded more than half of the tracks needed, but the band is still gathering tracks from new members.
Below you can listen to two unfinished songs on Bandcamp to get a taste of what they're cooking up!
The project is made possible by audio enginnering by Sly Samudre and Don Godwin, and project management assistance from Justin Lewiston. Session performers include Brennan McShane on guitar, Asia Jones and Don Godwin on drums, and Jack Dell on guitar, in addition to live members of the band listed above. Full credits to come with the album release. Neighbors from throughout Maryland participate in the choirs on several tunes including the title track, Don't Negotiate, Nadie es Ilegal (No one is Illegal), Money is a Tool, and Everything They Fear (They Are).
Above you can see some snapshots from our time recording in Tonal Park in Takoma Park, MD plus DIY home studios in the DMV.
This fundraiser for Migrant Solidarity and Mutual Aid fund of DC raised over $1,500 for our neighbors! We shared the bill with Acid Red Dress and Southside Shai. Watch full songs from the Melting Virgo set (with very poor audio quality) here. This set marks our first time performing with a full horn section!
We shared the stage with MDC-DSA house band, Point of Disorder. We are so grateful to have been a part of this longstanding DC tradition!
We performed original music with a smattering of well-known protest tunes that got the crowd singing and dancing along.
This fundRAVEr benefitted Janeese Lewis George for DC Mayor at Transmission, DC's home for the underground.
Ms. Alice played as a member of the DSA band, Point of Disorder. We played a smattering of the bandmate's original songs, including some Melting Virgo originals, and singalong covers!
