Melting Virgo writes and performs songs featuring themes of direct action, revolutionary joy, and pervasive accountability, packaged with upbeat and danceable grooves.
Launched in March 2025, singer and multi-instrumentalist, Alice M-A, leads the group and composes tunes both for use in the street and on the stage. With her experience in non-violent direct action song-leading and musical theater, she engages the audience by teaching them how to sing along with catchy original tunes, which helps the audience grow a sense of community and hope.
Songs are not yet available for streaming, but we are recording this summer! In the meantime you can listen to Melting Virgo's original songs performed live at our March 2025 launch show, and our Petworth Porchfest 2025 live set.

I wrote the hook of this song when smoke from California drifted across the country to DC in the summer of 2022. The song has been sung at many direct actions with groups like XRDC and the Sunrise Movement.
Themes of this song include investigating and holding accountable the people who knowingly cause harm.

Inspired by Merle Travis' song, "Sixteen Loans," the outro of this song changes the classic words into "Sixteen Loans," a new take on an old problem.
